About
Travel with us to the heart of Eastern Europe on this 4-night short break to Slovenia. Situated between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, Slovenia boasts astounding natural beauty and cultural wealth, and we’ll experience it all on this spectacular holiday. From our base in the charming and compact capital of Ljubljana, we’ll tour the incredible Postojna Caves in the country’s expansive Karst region, travel to the small stretch of Slovenian coastline on the Mediterranean to visit the picturesque town of Piran and discover the breath-taking scenery of the Slovenian Alps as we visit the country’s largest lake, Lake Bohinj, as well as its most famous, Bled. We’ll also enjoy plenty of time to explore Ljubljana’s green and leafy streets, historic buildings, trendy cafés and markets at our own pace, as well as taking in some of its most popular sites on a half day guided walking tour.
Day 1 (Travel To Slovenia):
Fly to Trieste airport, where you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s bustling capital.
Day 2 (Ljubljana):
This morning, enjoy a guided walking tour of the city’s highlights, including a funicular ride to Ljubljana Castle and the leafy banks of the Ljubljanica River.
Spend the afternoon at leisure in Ljubljana. Your local guide will be happy to offer suggestions of activities to suit your interests.
Day 3 (Postojna Caves & Slovenian Coast):
After breakfast, embark on a morning guided excursion to the Postojna Caves to admire the network of tunnels, halls and karst features. Here you will see the unique cave railway, the blackened entrance which was damaged by fire during World War II, and the impressive Congress Hall, which is now used as a concert venue.
In the afternoon, continue to the picturesque town of Piran located in Slovenia’s Adriatic coast for a guided walking tour of the old town followed by free time for lunch.
Day 4 (Lake Bohinj & Lake Bled):
Today, depart your hotel for a guided excursion to Lake Bohinj, the largest lake in Slovenia. Less well known, but just as beautiful as Bled, Lake Bohinj is a popular spot for fishing, swimming and hill walking. We’ll then take a panorama drive around the lake before continuing onto Lake Bled.
Continue your journey to Lake Bled for a guided tour including a boat trip to Bled Island, which lies in the centre of the lake’s glacial blue waters. The small island is home to St. Mary’s church (entrance included), small museum and the historic South Staircase, a set of 99 steps built in 1655.
Day 5 (Return Home):
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for Trieste airport for your flight home.
