Day 2

After breakfast, join your local guide for a city tour of Budapest.

Budapest is Hungary’s capital with a population in excess of 1.7 million. It is Hungary’s principal cultural, commercial, industrial, political, and transportation center and covers an area of roughly 525 square miles.  The city’s primary allure is the beautiful Danube River as it gracefully meanders its way through the city.  Today’s tour will visit both side of the city – Buda and Pest.

See the stunning Buda Castle district with its medieval streets, Mathias Church andthe famous  Fisherman’s Bastio.  Admire the interior of Matthias Church with its beautiful stained glass windows and fantastic paintings, visit the tomb of King Béla III with his wife Anne de Châtillon and the altar where Sissi and her husband Franz Josef were crowned. The church bears the name of King Matthias Corvinus (1458-1490), who ordered the construction of the highest tower of the church.

The Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the most famous structures in the city. It was built between 1895 and 1901 on the site of the demolished bailey wall. The seven conical turrets of the Fisherman’s Bastion symbolize the tents of the nomadic Magyar tribes who settled in Hungary in 896. The Bastion offers a beautiful panorama of the city.

Following a stop for lunch, the tour then continues to the Pest side of the city visiting Heroes Square, City Park, Széchenyi spa (exterior view), Andrássy Avenue, Opera (exterior view). Step inside the Dohány street Synagouge, one of the largest synagogue in the world, built in Neo-Moorish style, and marvel at this stunning piece of architecture.

Note: It is important to note that due to a new regulation, large coaches are now longer allowed in the Buda Castle District and must stop at the boarder of the Castle district. We recommend that you have comfortable shoes and warm clothes as parts of the tour will be on foot. Sightseeing in the Buda Castle District is on foot, and involves walking and stairs.  It is important that you advise of any mobility issue at the time of booking.

Day 4

Breakfast in your hotel.

Meet your local guide in the hotel lobby for today’s excursion which begins with a visit to the

Hungarian Parliament building, followed by lunch and an afternoon excursion to Szentendre.

The Parliament building is located on the river Danube and is one of Budapest’s most famous landmarks. The parliament was built between 1885 and 1902 along the Danube and was, for a time, the largest parliamentary building in the world. With 691 rooms and staircases stretching for more than 12 miles (20 kilometers), the building is topped by a dome that sits 226 feet (69 meters) high in the sky.  Visit to the Parliament, with audio guide. During your forty-five minute audio, you will explore the buildings impressive interior, including the Session Room and the Great Vaulted Hall.

(Please note that the parliament reserves the right to cancel and reschedule the visit should any official programme take precedence.  Should this occur, we reserve the right to replace the Parliament visit with a suitable alternative)

The tour continues on to Szentendre, a baroque city located where the Danube River meets the Pilis Mountains and known as the Artists village. Here you can wander this quaint town and soak up its wonderful atmosphere. Szentendre is famous its ceramics and you will have time to visit some of the museums, such as the world-famous Margit Kovács Ceramic Museum, or simply browse the shops of the village if you prefer, before the return journey to Budapest by coach.
