Discover two of Europe’s most fascinating cities with us on this guided holiday to Vienna and Bratislava. We’ll learn more about one of the most powerful European royal families on a guided tour of Vienna, the historic heart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and residence to the Habsburgs.Our expert local guide will take us to the magnificent Hofburg Palace and Schönbrunn Palace, then we’ll savour local wine at the Cobenzl winery. To travel to Bratislava we’ll take a leisurely cruise along the Danube, then see the top sights of Slovakia’s capital and later enjoy traditional cuisine at a local restaurant. Itinerary
Day 1 (Travel To Austria):
Depart for Vienna. You will be met by our local representative in the arrivals area of the airport before being transferred to your hotel.
This evening enjoy a welcome meal in our hotel. This is a great opportunity to get to know other members of our group and to pick up plenty of tips and information from our local guide.
Day 2 (Explore Vienna):
Today we will have a full day excursion to explore Vienna, our tour will start at one of the most important sights of Vienna the Hofburg Palace, former Imperial winter residence and scene of the Vienna Congress. Here we will have a guided tour of the Imperial apartments and the Sissi Museum dedicated to the Empress Elisabeth.
In the afternoon our guided tour will continue onto the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of Empress Sisi (entrance fee included). One of the most important cultural and historic monuments in Austria, the 1,441 room Baroque palace is surrounded by a magnificent garden, known as the Gloriette, giving unforgettable views over the palace area.
This evening, join us for a visit to the local Cobenzl winery for a tour with a local wine expert followed a wine tasting with six local wines.
Day 3 (At Leisure):
You will have today free for shopping and sightseeing of your choice. Why not take a trip to the Kunsthistorisches Museum, where you can view works by Raphael, Caravaggio, Brueghel, Bosch and many more celebrated artists.
Day 4 (Bratislava):
Today we check out of our hotel in Vienna and depart for Bratislava.
We will transfer from our hotel to the port in Vienna to board the Twin City Liner cruise for Bratislava. Sit back and enjoy this cruise down the Danube and admire the beautiful scenery as we pass through one of Europe’s most famous waterways.
We will arrive in Bratislava and check into our hotel. You will have the remainder of the afternoon at leisure to explore this historic city.
Day 5 (Discover Bratislava):
Join us this morning as enjoy a guided tour of Bratislava, here our walking tour will start in the restored old town. From Michael’s Gate you will take a leisurely stroll through the historic city centre, where you can admire sights such as the Primatial Palace and St. Martin’s Cathedral, a former coronation cathedral for Hungarian kings, as well as the Academia Istropolitana, the oldest university of the city, which dates back to the 15th century. In addition to numerous palaces, you will also walk past the main square with the old City Hall, the Opera House and Maximilian Fountain.
After our tour we will enjoy lunch together in a traditional Slovakian restaurant.
Day 6 (Schloss Hof):
Today we have a guided tour of the Schloss Hof Castle, a former home of the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. Largey described as a baroque county manor, after our guided tour we will have some free time to explore the beautiful gardens that surround the castle.
We will be transferred back to Bratislava where we will have the afternoon at leisure.
Day 7 (Return Home):
You will be transferred to Bratislava airport with guide assistance for your flight home.
