12th December 2026
Alpbach’s a top pick for first timers or intermediates wanting a week of easy-going cruising. South-facing and sunny, the nursery area and gentle blues up the mountain are the perfect place to learn the basics and build your confidence. Or head further afield to explore 114km of scenic, tree-lined runs in the wider Ski Juwel area.
The village itself was voted the most beautiful in Austria – and it’s easy to see why. Set on the tree-covered sides of the Alpbachtal valley, timber buildings cluster around the tall spire of the local church. The streets are dotted with traditional guesthouses and small family-run hotels, where the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Evenings are quiet here, so settle in for leisurely dinners and cosy nightcaps by the fire. But if you do fancy a little more action, there is a handful of pubs where you can grab a glühwein and play Austrian bar games.
For some alternative winter fun, take a snowy walk to the Reintalersee lake – when it’s frozen, you can even skate here. There’s also an open-air rink in the village, and for a snug way to see the scenery, with no steps needed, horse-drawn sleigh rides are the answer. After family thrills? Try the twists and turns of the 1.4km-long alpine coaster.
- 5 minutes’ walk to the village centre.
- Store your gear in the boot room.
- Traditional, family-run guesthouse.
The Fürstenhof is a friendly guesthouse run by the Hausberger family. So if you’re after a homely, relaxed stay with hosts who not only know your name but also how you like your coffee in the morning, this might be the one for you.
You’ll be staying in a great location close to the centre of Alpbach and, from its slightly elevated position, you’ll get some fantastic views of the Wiedersbergerhorn. The ski bus stops right outside for easy access to the Ski Juwel area.
All of the bedrooms have balconies and are decorated in a traditional style. You’ll start each day with a buffet breakfast, then you can discover some of Alpbach’s best restaurants in the evenings.
